Heading to Maine for your next vacation? Not sure where to go and what to do? Let me highly suggest the Mid-Coast Maine region for your exploring and relaxation. Mountains, ocean, islands, quaint main streets, fantastic eats, music, festivals, and so much more. While I love the whole region, I am more of an expert when it comes to the hip coastal city of Belfast.
Located where the Passagassawakeag River meets Penobscot Bay, Belfast has retained its brick facade charm from yesteryear and working waterfront grit, yet boasts praise-worthy galleries and a poet Laureate. Just a quick jump off Route 1, the city is a great stop for a day or even more. There is always something to do or see in Belfast: boating excursions, kayaking and paddle board rentals, waterfront festivals, a craft brewery, a harbor walk through a working boatyard, well appointed city park, weekly farmers' market, and festival practically every weekend throughout the summer.
